Why Leeds Businesses Are Committing 1% And Why It Matters

One for the City: the simple idea asking Leeds businesses to pledge 1% for lasting local change.

What if 1% was all it took to change a city?

That’s the idea behind One for the City. A simple commitment. Businesses pledge 1% of revenue or profit. The collective impact then supports local charities across Leeds.

No complicated structures. No vague promises. Just a clear model built around shared responsibility.

Launched in April 2023 as a registered CIC, One for the City was created to empower businesses to act as a force for good.

Contributions are administered by the Leeds Community Foundation, ensuring funds are distributed where they are needed most.

In its first year, the organisation welcomed 20 members.

The ambition now is to double that number and grow a stronger network of purpose driven leaders across the city.

Because when more businesses contribute, more change happens.

This is not about ticking a CSR box. It is about building a more inclusive economy that everyone can benefit from.

And Leeds is ready for it.
